SPD –Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction
The Symphysis Pubis is the joint that connects the 2 halves of the pelvis (the public bones) at the front of the body and is stabilized by ligaments. During pregnancy due to the hormone relaxin these ligaments that usually keep your pelvic bones aligned become too loose causing the joint to become unstable and move during pregnancy.
This can cause pain and inflammation (SPD) which often presents as deep groin pain that radiates down the inner thighs.
Recommended asanas for pregnant woman:
Stabilizing asanas such as cat stretch, one-leg cat and cow face pose
Practice dandasana and tadasana with a block for more stability
Also practice chair pose, half bridge, uttasana and down dog with a brick to support the Symphysis Pubis
Tone the pelvic floor and Transverse Abdominas (TA)
Avoid malasana (full yogi squat), wide leg poses and standing on one leg!
